Welcome to Loreto,
Baja California!
Loreto is located 750 miles
south of San Diego on the Lower California
peninsula in Mexico. The peninsula is comprised
of the 2 most northwestern states of Mexico,
Baja California Norte and Baja California
Sur. Though Loreto is a more remote destination
than other more touristy areas in "Baja",
we do have the service of an international
airport with arrivals from various major US
and Mexican airports. Driving is a great option
for folks who have some time before and after
the tours. Please see the additional
travel information links below for more information
about flying, driving and bussing into Loreto
and Mexico in general.
There are currently three flights
coming to Loreto. Alaska
Air has arrivals and departures
daily with two lights on Sundays. AeroMexico
has arrivals and departures on Thursdays and
Sundays. Plus they have a small jet called
AeroLitoral
which travels up to Loreto from La Paz at
mid day, and comes in from Hermosillo in Sonora,
Mexico every day in the evenings.
Delta
is one airline flying to Hermosillo -a major
hub for flights in northwestern Mexico, which
may be a great option for folks coming from
the eastern and southwestern US. Continental
currently has a direct flight
from Houston to Loreto.
Other options for travel to
Loreto may be – fly to Los Cabos, Baja,
Mexico and drive or bus up (7 hours driving
time). Fly to La Paz, Baja, Mexico and drive
or fly (on AeroLitoral) up. Driving from La
Paz to Loreto is approximately 5 hours. And,
if you have the time – drive from San
Diego south, about 750 miles, and enjoy the
many desert ecosystem along the way.
We have heard that there might
be additional low-fare airlines soon scheduling
to come to Loreto. For the moment, Loreto
is a little harder to get to than other popular
tourist destinations, But It’s Worth
It !
