La Paz
30th Anniversary Trip
1978 – 2008 30
year anniversary trip April 24 to May 5, 2008
In spring of 1978 Trudi and a group of eight
friends paddled across the channel from Puerto
Escondido, south of Loreto, to Isla Danzante.
It was a full moon night and being anxious to
start the expedition to La Paz, the perfect
time to cross on the smooth sea. Whales were
blowing as the group passed by under stars and
moon - a good beginning to a great excursion
down the coast. Five weeks later, cruising into
the channel in front of La Paz city a pod of
dolphins jumped and splashed; a good-bye from
the sea.
In 2008 join us for the 30 year anniversary
of the “Loreto-La Paz” coastal paddle.
Busy schedules, yours and mine, alas, only allow
for 10 paddling days, so our route will begin
in Agua Verde, and, if weather permits we’ll
cruise into the harbor 120 miles later. Our
alternate take-outs might allow for only an
80-90 mile route depende del viento, but we’ve
made it to the city before in 10 paddle days,
several times, and enjoyed the feeling of an
expedition well done.
This year (being 30 years older) we’ll
have a panga support boat accompany us on the
tour to help with extra water and supplies.
See the La Paz 2 week itinerary for a general
idea of how the trip will go, but come with
a sense of adventure in case alternative possibilities
arise. A few of the original 8 amigos are hoping
to join us…. Think of the stories! Hasta
luego, Trudi Angell
