Sea Kayaking
and Mountain Biking Combo - B&B and Beach
Camp
8 day Package - $995
2 nights Loreto hotel,
3 nights beach camp, 2 nights B&B mountain
village
Day 1 - Owner,
Trudi Angell, or a Paddling South rep will greet
you at the airport and help with the transfers
to our Loreto hotel. We'll have an orientation
meeting and welcome drink upon arrival, hand
out local route maps, and discuss plans for
the upcoming week. Dinner is on your own and
we’ll give recommendations to our favorite
restaurants and any special cultural activities
that might be happening in town.
Days 2 -4 - Focus on Kayaking,
Snorkeling and Desert Habitat. - Guides and
a taxi van will meet the group and drive 25
miles south to our beach base. Enjoy hiking,
kayaking and natural history on land and sea.
Experienced guides will teach the basics of
sea kayaking and lead excursions out to small
bird nesting islands and favorite snorkeling
bays dotted with rocky volcanic islands. Flora
and fauna, especially land and sea birds, abound
in this rich desert ecosystem. Tent camping,
all meals included.
Day 5 - A sunrise paddle starts
the day, then a hearty breakfast on the beach.
Mid day we’ll transfer to the Sierra Giganta
mountains. Focus on Mountain Biking, Hiking,
Cultural History and Rural Village Life. By
van or mountain bike we’ll travel the
rugged dirt roads to an oasis village and our
accommodations for the next 2 nights. Along
the way we’ll stop at an indigenous art
site by palm lined pools, and visit small ranches
with colorful gardens.
In the village, picturesque
adobe and thatch rooms a quiet front porch and
a quaint outside dining area is our base for
the next 2 days. Here we get to live in the
local culture and learn about Baja California’s
colonial beginnings and it’s historic
ranch life. Mission San Javier is the best preserved
of the original El Camino Real missions built
in the early 1700s. The majestic stone church
dominates the small town’s cobbled main
street and our cool verandah frames it beautifully.
Day 6 - Wake up to the sounds
of a mountain village morning. We’ll breakfast
in the garden and then the activities begin.
Guides and support vehicle are ready to lead
you on mountain bikes down canyon and out to
a favorite ranch site and swimming hole. Go
at your own pace and the group meets up at designated
stops and for lunch at a friend’s ranch.
For those who prefer a hike or horse ride**
we arrange a trip up to the canyon ridge top
where indigenous rock art engravings are found
strewn across the top of the mesa.
In the evening, after a traditional ranch-style
meal, we’ll share a campfire with some
of the villagers in an old olive grove and listen
to lore and stories of the mountains.
Day 7 - After breakfast we’ll
head back to Loreto. For folks not riding mountain
bikes today there is an optional canyon hike
following a colorful desert watercourse. We’ll
plan a lunch stop in beautiful Las Parras canyon
and arrive in Loreto mid afternoon with time
for shopping and exploring the town. In the
evening we’ll meet for a hosted farewell
dinner at a great local restaurant.
Day 8 - Morning on your own.
Your guides will pre-arrange a departure taxi
to the airport for you. Buen Viaje, and we hope
to see you again in Baja!

Mission San Javier
Notes:
*Guests must be aware that, as in any outdoor
activity, weather can often alter our paddling
plans. In winter months the strong north winds
can sometimes blow for a few days. If we need
to change the route or any part of the itinerary
it will be with the guests' safety and pleasure
in mind. Some itineraries may have us
head to the mountains first and the beach for
the latter half of the week. ** Mule or horse
ride is $45 additional.
* For folks who would like to accompany an
athletic friend or want a fun Baja adventure
but are happy with a less active vacation, a
Combo trip is a great way to join in. You can
choose your own speed and activity level by
opting to try out your skills or to join the
support vehicle when desired. There are wonderful
areas to explore on foot around our camps, and
historic mission sites and ranch gardens to
visit. As at the beach camp, horses and mules
are available for trail rides at an additional
cost. (This way an equestrian guest can join
the same trip as an avid mountain biking friend
!)
* Our beach base camp location offers tent
sites, porta-potti bathroom facilities, sun showers,
and a meeting / dining area on the beach. Other folks may
be camping in the area nearby.
* The minimum age limit is 8 years old for
our Combo trips. Activities available for young
guests include mule and burro rides at the ranch, ranch animals to pet and
care for, short day hike options. At the beach:
Kid + H2O & sand = Fun, (if wind or swell
conditions arise, younger trip members may be
limited on the kayak outings). An adult family
member or friend must accompany kids aged 8-12
during trip activities.
