South to Comondú

Mission de San Jose de Comondú
Day 1 - Arrive
Loreto. Airport greeting. Orientation meeting
with guide. Overnight included at Loreto Island
Hotel.
Day 2 - Breakfast and departure
by van to mountain ranch trail head. Ride traditional
trails from the ranch to a remote oasis camp
at Los Pilares, with pools, palms and beautiful
basalt pillar cliffs.
Day
3 - North over ridgetops with great
views of the Sierra Giganta, and a camp at an
old watering hole and ranch site. Along the
way we pass an indigeneous site of graphic engravings
in stone.
Day 4 - A rugged ride cross
country on the original El Camino Real trail
which connected the mission sites of centuries
past. Stones piled high on trailsides mark the
path of history in the high mountain desert.
Day 5 - Arriving mid day in
the tropical village, we’ll tour a sugarcane
candy making site and learn the traditions and
history of the quaint mission in a hidden valley.
Day 6 - An early start and
a 20 mile return ride on old abandoned dirt
roads along the ridges of the sierra will deliver
us back to the trail head near our ranch base.
Or, an alternate route may be to continue on
to the north to the village of La Purisima and
a bus or van ride back down the Pacific side
of the peninsula crossing to the Sea of Cortez
and Loreto for the last evening of the tour.
End of trip hosted dinner and Hotel Loreto Island
included.
Day 7 - Morning and breakfast
on your own... we’ll arrange for taxi
transport and see you off to flights. Hope to
see you again soon in Baja!
