SAIL BAJA BAREBOAT
CHARTER GUIDELINES (1ST PAGE)
Thank you for chartering Windmill,
our Catalina 22,. Windmill is a 1973 swing-keel,
sloop, built by Catalina Yachts, the largest
sailboat builder in the USA. More than 13,000
Catalina 22s have been built over the past
25 years. It has an active owners association
and joins a few other select boats (Sunfish,
Hobie Cat, & Laser) in the Sailboat Hall
of Fame.
As Small Boat Cruising Company,
we have been leading and outfitting SAIL BAJA
trips in Baja since 1983. Through our Mexican
company, Loreto Sailing Tours we offer bareboat
charters and a US SAILING-certified sail training
program.
Windmill, registered and inspected
in Mexico, began charters in 1997.
We chose the Catalina 22 because
of its popularity, durability, and shoal draft.
With its swing keel and kick-up rudder, it
is possible to anchor Windmill close to a
beach. This shallow draft means easier access
to the shore and more potential anchorages
than with a deep-draft boat.
It is, however, a 22-foot boat,
which puts some limitiations on cruising grounds
and the amount of people and ammenities that
can be carried. We think Windmill is ideal
for experienced sailors with some small boat
cruising experience, a modest amount of outdoor
camping skills, and a backpacker's mentality.
As one of our first guests put it, “It
reminds me of traveling in my old VW van!”
Windmill is a fully-equipped
charter bareboat for two to four persons.
A partial inventory includes: a mainsail with
two reefs, a roller reefing 135% genoa, 4-stroke
outboard, two Danforth anchors and tackle,

kit with two-burner propane stove, full safety
