WHAT TO BRING
Here are guidelines for personal gear to supplement
what is on board. You will want to be self-reliant
and pack lightly for a variety of conditions. These
items, or equivalents are suggestions for a comfortable
trip. Baja is the desert, not the tropics. It may be
cool at night. You will sail with the wind, and with
wind comes spray, making it damp aboard. The sun shines
for twelve hours and reflects intensely off the water.
Your hat, lightweight protective clothing, sun glasses,
and lots of sunscreen are your best protection. Cuts on
feet are the most common injury and could be troublesome
all trip. Close-toed, white-soled shoes (tennis shoes)
are best for aboard the boat. Water socks or sandals with
positive closure and good slip resistance are okay. Have
footgear that fastens securely for wading ashore. Tennis
shoes and sandals are adequate for ashore. Desert, salt
water, and beach sand aren’t kind to equipment or optics,
so protect them.
NECESSARY:
1 ea sleeping bag, mid-weight (synthetic fill).Cabin
is cushioned,
1 ea wide-brimmed, or long-billed sunhat
1 “ warm hat, watch cap
1 pr sunglasses w/captive strap (polarized
lenses best for glare & vision in water)
2 bottles, minimum, #15 or higher sunscreen
1 small bottle insect repellent (rarely used,
but better safe than sorry)
1 ea personal flashlight & batteries (headband
styles are great for freeing hands)
1 ea pocket knife
1 ea bandana (neck protection and hand wiper)
1 ea bathing suit (nylon, quick dry)
1 ea towel (try a synthetic quick-dry camping
towel)
1 ea water bottle, 1-quart with wide mouth
for easy refill
1 ea sm bottle of salt water soap (Joy dishwashing
liquid lathers well) (no Dr. Bonners)
1 pr sturdy cotton or nylon shorts, loose
for comfortable sitting, squatting
1 loose, long-sleeved, collared, light-colored
shirt for sun protection
1 pr long pants, loose khakis or equal (jeans
usually too hot)
1 pr thermal underwear for sleeping, chill
factor, protection while snorkeling
2 pr socks
- underwear, as needed
2 t-shirts, or equal (we like collared shirts
for neck protection)
1 warm layer, sweater or jacket
1 foul weather jacket or rain jacket, for
spray, warmth, & wind chill protection
2 pr shoes or sandals; 1 pr for getting wet
EXTRAS: Bring
those things that will enhance your trip such
as snorkeling gear, camera, binoculars, fishing
gear (permits required), Walkman, soft folding
chairs (Crazy Creek) for cockpit & beach,
handi-wipes, assortment of ziplock bags; but
remember, it is a small boat.
PACKING: You
should pack in small, soft luggage like zippered
duffel bags(12"X20"). It is wise
to line your duffels with a plastic garbage
bag for water protection. Bring a small daypack
for carrying sunscreen, water, etc; when you
are away from the boat. You will most likely
not be able to buy or replace gear while in
Baja. We will store your travel luggage ashore
during your cruise.
You will enjoy your trip more with organized,
lightly packed bags. We are happy to answer
questions and take suggestions.
