To the north of Loreto lies a quiet bay dotted with craggy spire islands. Bahía San Basilio has been a haven for the "vagabundos" (fishermen in old- style sailing canoas), a secluded, natural yacht harbor, and a perfect cove to explore by kayak. Its scalloped white-sand beaches, salt-flat estuaries and desert ridges with spectacular views offer great water-sports, hiking, mtn. biking, and trail riding - an amazing place for a multisport vacation!
Day 1 - Arrival. For personal service we greet you at the airport and transfer to the beautiful cove of Bahia San Basilio. Tent camping on the beach, ... we'll get settled in and gather for a group orientation meeting with one of the trip leaders. Guides answer questions and discuss the following day's options and activities to help you get ready for a great multisport adventure. There may be time in the evening for a short kayak tour in the bay, stand-up paddling, or hike to a vista point. Ground transfers, all tents and camp gear, a Bienvenidos! drink and dinner are included. All Meals are Fresh with Local Flavor! Vegetarians are easily accommodated.
We offer sleeping bag rental with a closed-cell foam pad for $25, to be paid in Loreto. Masks, fins, snorkels and lightweight wetsuit tops are included, or bring your own gear for the best fit for you. All sea kayaks, fiberglass SUPs, windsurf equip, mtn bikes, and trail riding gear included.
Days 2-4 (or 2-6 or 7) On the beach, certified, professional guides will teach the basics of sea kayaking safety and ecological camping techniques. Weather, or not, we can always take short paddles inside the bay… even if a "norte" is blowing out on the sea. With calm days at the beginning of the trip there may be time to paddle up the coast to secluded snorkeling areas, or out to the guardian rock at Punta Mercenarios. Hone your kayak skills with a trained expert. Mountain bike old roads and single track through desert cactus garden hills. And ride with the local cowboys at a nearby ranch, with traditional Baja saddles and sturdy well-trained mules. Guided rides to historic sites, spectacular views and secluded beaches.
We'll make camp for 3-5 nights inside the bay, with options for mountain biking hiking, trail riding, history and natural history day trips… and on day 4 (6 or 7 if you have chosen the longer package) we transfer back to town in the afternoon for an overnight in a hotel, an end-of trip dinner, and time to explore the cobbled streets of historic Loreto.
Day 5 ( 7 or 8 ) Final Day / Departure Day - Breakfast is on your own this morning. For early departures the hotel restaurant can accommodate your schedule, or head downtown to Café Olé for a brunch at the locals' favorite. Your guides will help you with transportation information for your return flight. Paradise lost... but come back soon for another great adventure on sea or land, to discover more of the treasures of Baja.
